Two changes were announced for Tulsa’s Sports Animal, with RJ Young taking over as full-time host of their 9 – 11am program and Erik Gee joining The Pat Jones Show from 11am – 2pm.
“Unbelievable opportunity,” Young told Bill Haisten of The Tulsa World. “If you had told me a few months ago that I would have this platform, I would have kicked you in the shins. I would have laughed.
“To do sports-talk radio in such a great sports state — this is an amazing privilege and honor.”
Previously, The Sports Mix aired in the 9 – 11am slot, which offered listeners a rotating cast of hosts, including Young twice a week. Now, the 31-year old, who made a name for himself with his YouTube channel, takes over as a full-time host on The Sports Animal.
“I want it to be fun,” Young said. “For the Animal to put my name on the marquee — you have to accept it with a sense of responsibility. Consistency is essential.”
An accomplished writer, the 2010 University of Tulsa graduate went on to receive his master’s in professional writing from the University of Oklahoma. Young is the author of three published books, having also been accepted into Oklahoma State’s English PhD program.
Bill Haisten of The Tulsa World also notes Sports Animal’s 11am – 2pm program, The Pat Jones Show is adding Erik Gee as a co-host starting next week. Gee has spent time on sports radio in Albuquerque and Oklahoma City during his career, hosting The Franchise on KRXO 107.7 in OKC from 2013 – 17.
“Pat is going to be great to work with,” Gee told Haisten. “He gives you gold every day. He’s limitless with his knowledge. He’s funny, and I promise, if you listen to this show every day, you’ll learn something.”
Previously known as Coach and the Big O, former Oklahoma State University head football coach, Pat Jones has been the show’s solo host since Jerry Ostroski left the program about six weeks ago. Ostroski, a retired NFL offensive-lineman, left the show after 14 months for a position with the University of Tulsa’s athletic department.
