Tony Bruno is returning to terrestrial radio, joining ESPN 97.3 in South Jersey for the fast-approaching NFL season.
Bruno will host three weekly shows for the Townsquare Media owned radio station, as a lead-in for Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football and every Eagles game. Each show for the native Philadelphian will be two hours long, but don’t view his return to terrestrial radio as a precursor to a possible full-time job.
“I’m not really coming out of retirement to take a full-time radio job,” Bruno told Rob Tornoe of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It’s really not that big of a deal to do two hours.”
Use the term “retirement” lightly because Bruno already hosts three commercial-less hours every weekday on Twitch. Earlier this year, Bruno partnered with the streaming platform typically used by gamers, to broadcast a daily show which airs Monday – Friday from 1 – 4pm without interruption. Add that to his new gig on 97.3 ESPN and that’s 21 hours of show time each week for the “retired” sports talk host. Bruno’s three new weekly shows for 97.3 ESPN will also simulcast on Twitch.
Bruno joins popular Philadelphia sports talk hosts, Eytan Shander and Harry Mayes in making the jump to South Jersey’s sports radio station. Shander and Mayes joined 97.3 ESPN to host the station’s midday show shortly after parting ways with Philly’s 97.5 The Fanatic. Bruno, whose career stops include ESPN Radio, Fox Sports Radio and 94.1 WIP, also co-hosted a daily show with Mayes at The Fanatic
According to Crossing Broad, Bruno will broadcast terrestrially on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 – 8pm, and three hours before every Eagles game. 97.3 ESPN switches to Eagles radio one hour before kickoff and Bruno will host the station’s local pregame show two hours before the switch.
