Entercom announced a partnership with Pittsburgh Steelers running back, James Conner to join 93.7 The Fan for a weekly show. The James Conner Show will air every Monday at 5pm as part of The Fan’s afternoon drive duo, The PM Team with Poni and Mueller, beginning September 9th.
“We are excited to welcome James to the 93.7 The Fan family this season,” said Michael Spacciapolli, SVP and Market Manager, Entercom Pittsburgh. “James is one of the most beloved personalities in the region and we know he will bring unique insight and inspiration to the show.”
Conner, a Western Pennsylvania native and former University of Pittsburgh running back is excited for the opportunity to join The Fan each week. “I’m thrilled to be able to connect with Steeler nation through 93.7 The Fan every week and share with listeners insights that they won’t hear anywhere else,” Conner said in a press release.
The addition of Conner to The Fan, means the end of The Ben Roethlisberger Show, a popular weekly spot thanks to the quarterback’s candor. Roethlisberger’s weekly 20-minute segment during The Fan’s afternoon show regularly made headlines because of his, at times, polarizing radio personality.
In 2017, after losing to the Patriots in an AFC Championship game, Big Ben acknowledged he was considering retirement while on The Fan. On separate occasions, Roethlisberger questioned his offensive coordinator’s play calling and criticized teammates, once saying Martavis Bryant had to toughen up, also noting a poorly ran route by Antonio Brown.
The Steelers front office publicly supported Roethlisberger’s unfiltered radio appearances, but an April report by Matt Verderame of FanSided.com stated the star quarterback might end his show on The Fan to improve his relationship with teammates. The addition of James Conner to 93.7 The Fan appears to confirm the end of Roethlisberger’s weekly radio spots.
Big Ben had been heard on 93.7 The Fan for six seasons and although his teammates might not miss him returning for a seventh installment of The Ben Roethlisberger Show, the rest of us will.
