Hollis ‘Tank’ Thomas, is no longer with Philadelphia’s 94.1 WIP. The sports radio host and former Eagles defensive lineman joined another ex-WIP employee, The Josh Innes Show podcast to announce his departure from the station.
According to Tank’s side of the story, he agreed in April to make an appearance for the Entercom owned WIP, but the station never gave a specific date or time for the event. Tank requested the information more than once and was finally provided the details when it was too late. Having already made other plans, the radio host was now unavailable for the appearance.
“They said if I don’t show up to the appearance, then my employment is in jeopardy,” Thomas told The Josh Innes Show podcast. “I said, ‘Okay, bye.’ “
Ultimately it was Tank’s decision to leave WIP, but according to him, if provided with the details on his appearance when he asked months ago, there would have been no conflict. Tank also told Innes that WIP’s program director Spike Eskin took issue with his contributions to the Green Legion Podcast.
This season, popular Philly sports bar “Chickie’s and Pete’s” began paying Tank and the Green Legion Podcast to broadcast from their restaurant. WIP also regularly broadcasts from the sports bar and according to Tank, Spike informed him that appearing on the competing platform was a conflict of interest.
Tank also told Innes he believes the discrepancy stems from Spike’s relationship with the Green Legion’s organizer, Quimby. The Green Legion started as an organized fan travel group in the early 2000’s and according to Tank, Spike and Quimby had a falling out at some point recently. Spike has not commented on any of these reports.
Tank was a part-time contributor to Angelo Cataldi’s morning show on WIP, also co-hosting a weekend show with Rob Charry. Tank, Innes and Spike co-hosted WIP’s afternoon show together in 2015, before Eskin left the on-air role to focus on PD responsibilities.
