If you want Mike Bell of 92.9 The Game in Atlanta to end up with a tattoo on his butt, then you’ll have some added interest in Sunday’s season finale between the Falcons and Buccaneers.
Almost exactly a year ago, the Falcons picked up the fifth-year option of their defensive end Vic Beasley, a move that Bell wasn’t in favor of. When discussing the decision, Bell told his radio co-host Carl Dukes that he would get Beasley’s face tattooed on his butt if the DE gets 10 sacks in 2019. A year later, Beasley sits on eight sacks with one game to go.
Recognizing the importance of their final game of the season, Jason Butt of The Athletic checked in with Falcons’ players to see if they’re aware of the radio bit.
Quarterback Matt Ryan did not know about the tattoo, but is eager for it to happen. “Vic’s got a big weekend next week!” Ryan told Butt.
And yes, Butt recognized the irony of writing a story about Bell’s Butt.
“I am still confident that Vic will not get two sacks against Tampa Bay,” Bell told Butt. “That’s a solid offensive line. But I’m excited for people who listen to our show; they’re very fired up. I get a lot of heat every time he gets a sack, even in my own section. People are losing their minds.”
Bell might not think Beasley will get two sacks in Tampa Bay, but he must be slightly more concerned than he was halfway through the season, when the DE totaled just 1.5 sacks.
“I feel like everybody is entitled to their own opinion,” Beasley said to The Athletic. “If that’s how he feels, that I can’t (get 10 sacks), then that’s his opinion.”
Beasley has had two or more sacks six times during his career, with the most recent being Week 14 of this season against the Panthers.Dukes & Bell airs weekdays from 2 – 7pm on 92.9 The Game.
