The Los Angeles Chargers are on the move again as they head to the FM dial for the upcoming NFL season. iHeartMedia Los Angeles announced a multiyear extension of their current broadcast media partnership.
The most notable change, according to the press release, is a move from AM 570 LA Sports to sister station ALT 98.7, Los Angeles’ New Alternative. In addition to carrying the game broadcast, ALT 98.7 will also be home to a two-hour pregame and one-hour postgame show.
“Following a wonderful three-year relationship with the Spanos family, the front office and the team on the field, iHeartMedia Los Angeles is very excited to extend our multi-platform partnership with the LA Chargers,” said Don Martin, SVP of sports for iHeartMedia Los Angeles, Premiere Networks and Fox Sports Radio. “2020 will mark a historic season as the Chargers christen their new home at SoFi Stadium, and iHeartMedia Los Angeles looks forward to being the voice that keeps every Chargers fan informed, engaged and connected. Bolt Up!”
While the gameday broadcast moves to ALT 98.7, AM 570 LA Sports will still be featured in the partnership between iHeart and the Chargers. Specific regular season and postseason games will be simulcast on the FOX Sports Radio affiliate. AM 570 LA will also continue to feature players, coaches and Chargers personalities in regularly scheduled segments on their airwaves throughout the NFL year.
“Over the past three years, not only has iHeartMedia Los Angeles been a tremendous partner, they’ve played an instrumental role in growing the Chargers brand and connecting it with fans across the region,” said A.G. Spanos, President of Business Operations for the Los Angeles Chargers. “I’m thrilled to see our partnership expand to both sides of the radio dial and extend beyond the airwaves to marquee events put on by both the Chargers and iHeartMedia. As we move into our new SoFi stadium home and embark upon a new era of Chargers football, having a partner as influential and dedicated as iHeartMedia Los Angeles right there with us is an incredibly exciting proposition.”
The press release did not confirm, nor note any changes to their current broadcast team which most recently featured play-by-play voice Matt “Money” Smith, color analyst and former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah, along with Shannon Farren as the sideline reporter.
