Skip Bayless took exception to comments made by Randy Moss concerning Cam Newton and the Patriots’ offense on a recent episode of ESPN’s Get UP!. So he delivered a passionate rebuttal on Monday’s Undisputed broadcast.
Moss, a NFL Hall-of-Fame wide receiver, said in part, “What we have seen coming out of New England, there is going to be a change (with Cam). I think we are going to see them have a lot more fun, not just the New England fans, but for football fans around the world.”
“I have about 23 problems with what Randy Moss said,” Bayless countered. “It has been a long time since a comment has dumbfounded and outraged me as much as this one has. He even went as far as to say that over the last 20 years, the New England offense has not been fun to watch.”
Bayless then addresses Moss directly.
“Randy, you were actually there and part of a 2007 offense which was the best I had ever witnessed up to that point. They shattered every offensive record imaginable. I was on the edge of my seat watching every game because it was bombs away and it was the most fun this side of the Saint Louis Rams offense in 2001. This (Patriots’) offense was unstoppable.”
Bayless also asks Moss what his definition of fun is.
“What are we talking about here? Are we talking about Cam occasionally running for a first down on a third down? That is a lot of fun. I will give you that. Or are we talking about the kind of fun that Panthers’ fans have had over the last four years when Cam has led them to a 23-23 record? Is that fun? It’s not fun to me.”
Bayless follows with his idea of a fun offense.
“Fun is Tom Brady winning six Super Bowls with six edge of your seat drives. You can’t define fun any better than that. Fun is when Tom Brady throws for 124 yards against the Legion of Boom (Seattle’s defense) in the fourth quarter of a Super Bowl. That’s Mardi Gras kind of fun.”
“You want a bigger definition of fun?” Bayless continued. “It’s Tom Brady leading the New England Patriots from 28-3 down in a Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons. In the fourth quarter and overtime, Tom Brady threw for 246 yards. That’s New Year’s Eve kind of fun.”
Bayless wraps up his argument by insinuating that Moss’ opinion of Tom Brady and the New England offense could come from the fact that he never won a Super Bowl with the Patriots.
“Maybe he (Moss) did not watch the Super Bowls,” Bayless said. “Maybe he wasn’t aware that Tom has won six of them… Randy, what are you thinking? Cam may be fun to watch, but Tom Brady is the funnest quarterback in the history of football.”
