MLB Network Announces New Episodes Of The Sounds Of Baseball

MLB Network announced two broadcasting legends, Harry Caray and Joe Garagiola will be featured on their next two editions of The Sounds of Baseball.

Hosted by Bob Costas and Tom Verducci, the series launched in June as a way of looking back on some of the most memorable moments from iconic baseball announcers. The first four installments of the series featured Vin Scully, Jack Buck, Bob Uecker and Al Michaels. Costas and Verducci will highlight Garagiola’s career this Sunday, Aug. 9 at 8pm ET, while Caray will be featured next Sunday, Aug. 16 at 8pm ET. 

Highlights and memorable calls from both legendary voices will be featured, but Costas notes The Sounds of Baseball looks to humanize the announcers and reveal what set them apart. 

“At various times, Joe was a play-by-play guy, an analyst, and a true ‘color’ man. A storyteller and humorist,” Costas said in the press release. “Beyond that, he was a huge television star: Today ShowTonight Show, game shows, New Year’s parades, and more. Joe was a favorite of baseball fans, but also enduringly popular with millions of viewers who wouldn’t know a sacrifice fly from a squeeze play. And Harry Caray? Truly one of a kind. Bombastic, an unabashed homer, a genuine, larger-than-life character. He broke just about every rule in the broadcaster’s handbook, all to delightful effect.”

Garagiola calling Mickey Mantle’s 500th career home run, Mookie Wilson’s at-bat in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, his appearances on The Tonight Show and time spent in the Diamondbacks booth will be among the highlights on display. For Caray, fans can look forward to learning about his unique broadcast style, memorable moments and famed performances of Take Me Out To The Ballgame

Mark Jackson: ‘I Look Forward To Coaching Again’

”I look forward to the day that I am coaching again.”

It has been 7 years since Mark Jackson has been a coach in the NBA, but the former Golden State Warriors coach is still waiting on his next chance to lead an NBA team.

The ESPN analyst went on to Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe yesterday to discuss why he is not coaching in the NBA currently despite having some success helping shape the modern Golden State Warriors.

”I don’t know, that’s the full answer I do not know. What I will say is that I look forward to the day that I am coaching again. It will happen, I truly believe that with everything in me.” Mark Jackson said when asked why he did not have a head coaching job.

He also added that he rests on the success that he had with the Golden State Warriors and that it speaks for itself.

Mark Jackson works alongside another former head coach, Jeff Van Gundy, as part of ESPN’s top NBA broadcast, and Jackson believes that Van Gundy also deserves a shot at another coaching job and has been vocal it in past interviews.

“I know if I was hiring, without a doubt Jeff Van Gundy would be my hire. He’s a brilliant basketball mind, an incredible basketball coach. I’m speaking of a guy that sat in a chair and watched him lead a team as my head coach”.

Van Gundy however, has not been as eager to jump back into coaching like Jackson.

ESPN Passing On In Game Ads For Sportsbook Licensing Deal

While ESPN is looking aggressively for a licensing deal with a sportsbook, they are certainly playing the slow game on in-game advertisements.

The NFL’s sportsbook partners have already spent $50.7 million on in-game advertising since the beginning of the NFL season on September 9th.

Among those cashing in have been ESPN’s competitors CBS, Fox, and NBC while ESPN has been slow to jump into the action.

According to the commercial-tracking service iSpot.tv, the three broadcast networks have all but maxed out on gambling spots, with each booking the league-mandated maximum of six sportsbook ads per game.

“They’re shopping around for a licensing deal that could bring in as much as $3 billion, so what they’ve been leaving on the table is chump change.” one TV sales vet said of ESPN.

“They don’t want to put themselves in a situation where they have one sportsbook buying a lot of time on Monday night, only to get the exclusive marketing deal done with another book and suddenly face a conflict of interest.” he added.

With a looming licensing deal on the horizon, it seems that ESPN is waiting for said deal to make in-game advertisements come from one sole partner.

In-game advertising is just at the tip of the iceberg, and ESPN is waiting on the big money. Sports gambling is still only the sixth-biggest ad category so it appears that ESPN is choosing to go with the more commonly known ad categories until they get the big deal that they are looking for from sportsbooks.

Stephen A. Smith Admits He Didn’t Want Covid 19 Vaccine

Stephen A. Smith had plenty to say about Kyrie Irving and the Covid-19 vaccine yesterday. On Stephen A. Smith’s show Stephen A’s World, he made his stance very clear on what teams should do with players who do not want to get the vaccine.

I said it last week about Andrew Wiggins and Golden State in regards to the vaccine, so I will say it again about Kyrie Irving, TRADE HIM!” said Stephen A Smith.

”If he isn’t going to take the vaccine and be able to play half of your home games, trade him.How can you commit to any player, even one as magnificent and brilliant as Kyrie Irving if he is going to miss half of your games.” added Smith.

Stephen A added that he actually did not want to take the vaccine either, but he did so in order to keep working.

”A lot of us didn’t want to take it, I didn’t want to take it. But you gotta do what you gotta do, sacrifices yall, sacrifices.” said Smith.

Disney made the decision in late July to mandate that all employees will be vaccinated, including 4,000 employees at ESPN.

It appears that their mandate mostly went over pretty well at the company, although Allison Williams, a sideline reporter at ESPN did decide to step down this month due to the mandate at the company.
