It’s Primetime at Barstool!
The brand announced on Wednesday that it had a deal with Deion Sanders, who will join the company after announcing the day before that he was leaving the NFL Network after 14 years. In a video announcing the deal, Sanders promised that he would bring “faith, motivation, spiritual guidance…and a real opinion on almost every sport”.
Sanders is the guest on the newest edition of Pardon My Take, the most popular podcast under the Barstool Umbrella. He told PFT Commenter and Big Cat that 21st and Prime will make a comeback as a podcast for Barstool. A television version of the show was cancelled earlier this year by the NFL Network.
He was also a guest on Barstool’s SiriusXM channel this morning. When hosts Willie Colon and Large asked why Sanders wanted to join Barstool, the answer they received began with the words “Why not?”.
“You know, once upon a time I wanted to do a daytime talk show and I was really close but I didn’t want to move to New York and L.A. because I’m a real father first. But I’ve always had an insatiable amount of content that I never had a hold on,” Sanders said. “I got so much stuff inside me that I don’t get to say and it just baffles me at the end of each day, at the end of each program. You know, when you’re on a network show you may get 15 to 30, 45 seconds at the most to get your shot off, then you have to pass it to the next man. And then you go home frustrated saying, ‘Dang, I really didn’t get to elaborate on that subject.’ I don’t have to feel that way anymore. I got so much in me that I want to give out and now I got the mechanism and the avenue to do such a thing by the grace of God and Barstool, man. I’m elated.”
Financial terms of the deal have not been revealed. Sanders will have other duties at Barstool including hosting a digital show Sunday nights during the NFL season. He will also appear in videos for the company throughout the week.
Earlier this year, Sanders told The Dan Patrick Show that he was serious about getting into coaching. He even promised he would be a head coach of a college football team “by next year.” Barstool has a history of allowing for unique working situations, so while unlikely, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Sanders could pursue and land a coaching job while still being part of the Barstool family.
