Louisville defeated Duke, 70-65, on Saturday. An agitated coach Mike Krzyzewski decided it was necessary to take his frustration from the loss on a student reporter.
Jake Piazza, a student reporter from the Duke Chronicle asked what seemed to be an honest question about his team losing and soon felt the wrath of Coach K.
After the clip from the post-game interview went viral and over 4 million people witnessed the unnecessary, stern response from Duke’s head coach.
Piazza and another student reporter drove 9 hours to cover the game. Mike Krzyzewski recently called Piazza and apologized.
Piazza wrote about the experience for the student paper.
“Coach K’s response was far from ideal, but after the press conference I went about writing my postgame article like any other game I’ve covered, albeit slightly embarrassed after being roasted in a room full of my fellow reporters,” he wrote.
As fascinating as economics can be, it would behoove Coach K to steer away from voicing demeaning micro-level remarks to students and channel his energy into beating a conference rival.
