Giannis Antetokounmpo Sad To See Former Bucks Beat Writer Gone

“When Giannis asked where Velasquez had been, he wasn’t too happy to find out the reporter left the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel a few months ago for Indianapolis.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a fan of former Bucks beat reporter Matt Velazquez, but apparently, he doesn’t read the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel too often.

After the Bucks played their 30th game of the season, Giannis noticed Velazquez wasn’t there for the post-game presser. When Giannis asked where Velasquez had been, he wasn’t too happy to find out the reporter left the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel a few months ago for Indianapolis.

It was cool to see the respect and genuine interest Giannis had for Velazquez. But while Giannis might have “thought we were closer than that” referring to his athlete-journalist relationship, Velazquez made this announcement months ago. Giannis didn’t hold up his end of the bargain on their friendship, making it obvious he never read Velazquez’s farewell column from December.

Velazquez and his family relocated to Indianapolis last August as his wife pursues her dream of becoming a physician. Velazquez spent more than seven years with the Journal-Sentinel, having covered the Bucks and Giannis for most of his NBA career.
