ABC to Carry Its First Bundesliga Match Saturday

ESPN and ABC may be testing the waters to see just how much milage they can get out of some of these partnerships.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 6 at 12 PM. ABC will broadcast its first-ever German Bundesliga match – FC Bayern München vs. Borussia Dortmund.

The “Der Klassiker” rivalry game will feature English and Spanish speaking coverage. Fans will be able to stream the game on ESPN+ or head over to ESPN Deportes as well.

These two German forces have dominated the field in the last decade. They have combined to win the last 11 league titles, with FC Bayern – the 2020 UEFA Champions League champion – winning nine times, including the past eight seasons, per ESPN.

ESPN is giving the event MegaCast-like coverage with a traditional feed, a Spanish feed, and a “Star Cam” presentation that follows Dortmund’s Gio Reyna, who recently made his debut with the US Men’s National Team and FC Bayern’s Alphonso Davies, who is a member of the Canadian National Team.

European soccer continues to be a focus for both cable and streaming video services. ESPN and ABC may be testing the waters to see just how much milage they can get out of some of these partnerships.

  1. Not much of a soccer fan nowadays. Interesting competition on what ABC can offer against NBC with the Bundesliga tomorrow. If successful, could see a couple of games (20 at least that NBC is throwing right now with the EPL) live Over the Air next season.
