Basketball fans won’t have to wait long to see more action on CBS. The network usually goes into hardwood hibernation after the NCAA Tournament concludes but not this year.
According to Chris Haynes, the BIG3 basketball league is returning after a year hiatus, tipping off on July 10.
Hip-hop legend Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz founded the league to give their favorite NBA players from past years a chance to compete again. The games will air exclusively on CBS and CBS Sports Network and be played in two locations: Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and Xavier University, an historically Black college in New Orleans.
CBS previously held the broadcasting rights in 2019 and will now air every game live on their platform. CBS Sports HQ aired the contests when the league last suited up in 2019. Some changes surrounding this season include a lowered age limit and access for amateurs. The cutoff age for the league went from 27 to 22 years old and was previously only allowed to encompass professional players.
The league is working with local officials on allowing fans. The 2021 season is 10-weeks long, crowning a champion on Sept. 4.
