Fox Sports personality and former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall made waves yesterday when a clip of his most recent I AM ATHLETE podcast went viral. Marshall passionately defended his position that a lot of NBA players’ contracts aren’t guaranteed during a debate about the financial power structure in the NFL’s future.
The I AM ATHLETE podcast features Marshall along with other former NFL players including Chad Johnson, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor. The group uses free-flowing, unscripted conversation to drive the show.
“Y’all talking about the NBA, everybody got guaranteed contracts, and it’s false,” Marshall said. “There’s four guys on an NBA team that got guaranteed contracts, and everybody else can be cut today.”
Many voices on Twitter poked holes in Marshall’s argument that “four guys” have guaranteed contracts on an NBA team. Though there are cases where some NBA players sign partially guaranteed contracts.
Another common talking point about the incident on social media was Marshall’s passion in making his point. It didn’t matter that he was wrong. The former WR got louder and angrier in his defense.
