Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo has been the same character on sports radio for more than three decades. But that doesn’t mean the 61-year-old won’t change with the times, on Tuesday, Russo said he’s willing to do a show after eating an edible.
During an all-encompassing interview with Howard Stern, Russo was asked about marijuana legalization, and to the surprise of many, he admitted to taking the occasional edible.
“You know what the gummy is? It doesn’t have all the aftereffects, you take the gummy and in an hour-and-a-half you’re starving and you’re half in the bag!” Russo told Stern, noting it kicks in after about 40 minutes, so you have to be careful not to take too much.
Russo said there are some Friday evenings after his SiriusXM radio show, where he’ll take a cannabis gummy and go for a walk around the neighborhood with his dogs to mellow out, other times he’ll watch a ballgame. Initially, Russo told Stern he wouldn’t video or record himself after taking a gummy, but the hesitation quickly dissipated.
“I get goofy, I laugh, I do silly things,” Russo said, adding that the gummies were a Christmas gift left in his stocking from his children.
This is not yet a SiriusXM approved event, but Stern wants to promote it whenever Russo is ready to give it a try. A goofy, silly, mellowed out Mad Dog, I’ll tune in.
