Obama Blames Right-Wing Media for GOP Upholding Trump’s Lies

Obama outlined why there is cause for concern after watching Republican leadership gather behind former President Donald Trump and the lie that the 2020 election was stolen.

Former President Barack Obama sat down with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, where the two discussed various topics, including the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, The Wrap reports.

During the interview, Obama outlined why there is cause for concern after watching Republican leadership gather behind former President Donald Trump and the lie that the 2020 election was stolen. The former president stated that right-wing media deserves some of the blame.

“Now, the reason for that is because the base believed it and the base believed it because this had been told to them not just by the president, but by the media that they watch and nobody stood up and said, ‘Stop. This is enough. This is not true,” Obama said.

Obama went into further detail regarding the media and discussed the problems he sees in media coverage of political issues.

“Certain right-wing venues,” Obama said. “Monetize and capitalize on stoking the fear and resentment of a white population that is witnessing a changing America and seeing demographic changes and do everything they can to give people a sense that their way of life is threatened and that people are trying to take advantage of them.”

“You know, you used to have a bunch of local newspapers, local TV stations. People weren’t having these highly ideological debates, but they were kinda more focused on what’s happening day to day.”

MSNBC Won’t Recognize New Union Effort Until It’s Voted On

The MSNBC Union announced it was preparing to become a local chapter of the Writers Guild of America, East.

There are over 200-plus MSNBC workers are forming a union. However, the network stated it wouldn’t acknowledge the effort until most workers vote in a secret ballot election. The MSNBC Union announced it was preparing to become a local chapter of the Writers Guild of America, East.

“We are the editorial staff of MSNBC and The Choice. Over 200 of us have signed a union petition to join the @wgaeast,” the group tweeted. “We know our contributions have earned us a seat at the table where we can advocate for a safe and fair workplace.”

In a separate tweet, the MSNBC Union asked network executives to recognize their new chapter voluntarily. Despite these demands, MSNBC President Rashida Jones stated she respected her employees’ decision to organize.

However, MSNBC won’t acknowledge the union until the employees vote for it in a National Labor Relations Board-supervised secret ballot election.

“I believe our employees should be able to make such an important decision through a standard election process,” Jones wrote in a statement that The Hill relaid. “It is important to give everyone who would be included the chance to understand what this would mean before making their choice.”

The View Co-Hosts Spar Over Joe Biden’s Outburst

Meghan McCain and Whoopi Goldberg got into a heated exchange when discussing Biden’s reaction towards a CNN reporter.

President Biden snapped at a reporter following a press conference on his European trip this week, and the incident led to a sparring session between two co-hosts on “The View.”

Meghan McCain and Whoopi Goldberg got into a heated exchange when discussing Biden’s reaction towards a CNN reporter.

“Just because Trump was so bad, it doesn’t absolve Biden’s bad behavior,” McCain said. “What he just did was 100 percent Trump-y. I just think I would like a little intellectual consistency. If Trump had done that, we would be screaming at the top of our lungs … one way or another.”

The president apologized to the media for the upheaval minutes later before boarding a plane to the United States. Nonetheless, McCain stated that the Washington, D.C. media members are probably getting “sick of” Biden not being more available or only calling on preselected journalists.

McCain’s statements led to a back and forth spar with Goldberg.

“It’s the press’s job to speak truth to power,” McCain said. “And just because Biden has gotten a pass so far … It is no one’s best interest to continue to treat him like it’s state TV.”

“Yeah, the thing I never saw Trump do was apologize to anybody,” Goldberg responded. “With all due respect, I don’t care that he’s apologizing; he just embarrassed himself,” McCain said.

“I don’t care that you don’t care,” Goldberg shot back. “Well, I don’t care that you don’t care, Whoopi, so we’re even,” McCain retorted.

“Well then, good Meghan, then you can be how you always are,” Goldberg said as she threw the show to a commercial break. “You can be how you always are!” McCain responded.

Fox News Anchor Rick Leventhal to Depart at the End of June

Leventhal was relocated to California by the network last year because he wanted to spend more time with his wife. The network reportedly was not thrilled about his unwillingness to fly back to New York and not report on breaking news.

Fox News anchor Rick Leventhal is leaving the network at the end of June, according to the New York Post. Leventhal has been with Fox News for more than 20 years reporting on wars, hurricanes, and the death of Osama Bin Laden.

Leventhal’s wife, Kelly Dodd, is a cast member on the Real Housewives of Orange County. It was recently announced that Dodd would not be returning for the upcoming 16th season.

Leventhal was relocated to California by the network last year because he wanted to spend more time with his wife. The network reportedly was not thrilled about his unwillingness to fly back to New York and not report on breaking news.

“When Rick came to us and asked to cease reporting breaking news nationally and remain in Los Angeles where we relocated him at his request in 2020, we understood and respected his decision to spend more time with his wife building a new life in California,” the statement from Fox News said.

Meanwhile, Dodd is blaming her co-star Braunwyn Windham-Burke for her not returning to the show. Dodd posted several screenshots on Instagram of an exchange between the pair. Dodd told her former costar, “This was your fault. We’d still be on the show if you didn’t make things so dark and ugly and brought all that political ‘woke’ BS.”

Fox News publicly thanked Leventhal for his commitment to covering the news.

“We wish him much luck and happiness in all of his future endeavors and thank him for his incredible contributions to Fox News Media over the last 24 years.”

His late day on the air will reportedly be on June 28.
