The Herd with Colin Cowherd is not exactly the most-beloved sports radio host of devout Cleveland Browns fans due to his long-running criticisms of Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. That sentiment may not change much following Cowherd’s segment on Tuesday regarding the Browns expectations heading into 2021.
Cowherd was responding to a segment on The NFL Network that ranked the most complete rosters in the NFL, with the Browns coming in at No. 1. The media giant took exception with the ranking, and utilized his oft-used strategy of analogies to drive home his point. His choice of analogy on Tuesday: the music festival, Coachella.
“Coachella sounds great: lot of big names, you take your cool attractive friends to the desert,” he said. “Then like three days in, it’s like wow it’s 108, there’s 150,000 people and you can’t get close. The bathroom situation is regrettable. I’m sorry but I dont want to live in a tent, and the cool people aren’t nearly as cool as you thought when they’re six rum drinks in on the third day. You’re like OK I’ve done this three years, I’m done with Coachella.”
It was not even Mayfield or the offense’s slew of weapons that Cowherd mentioned in his comparison. Rather it was the Browns defense, led by 2020 first-team All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett. While conceding Garrett’s greatness on the field, Cowherd asked what would happen if he missed time again with injury; citing Sheldon Richardson’s departure, Denzel Ward’s injury history, and describing Jaeveon Clowney as “the poster is better than reality.”
When it comes to teams Cowherd thinks should be above the Browns, he lists the Chiefs, 49ers, Buccaneers, Bills, and Ravens. He closed the segment by insinuating the Browns’ 2021 expectations may need some cleansing.
“Cleveland, like Coachella, sounds big, sounds like the greatest time of your life,” he said. “After a couple years, a few rum drinks, and five days in a tent, you’re like it’s time to go home now and take a shower.”
