Former 77 WABC host turned politician, Curtis Sliwa, wants the city to cover expenses for anyone who saves a cat or a dog from being euthanized at a city shelter.

The Republican mayoral nominee told the New York Post that he wants to give people a $1,000 “Pet Snap Card” that they could use for food, supplies, and related expenses at local stores.

“This Pet SNAP Card will help promote and facilitate adoptions throughout New York City by easing the financial expenses of pets,” he told the paper. “It works in the same way as the traditional SNAP program except it can only be used toward pet expenses, food, supplies, vet care, etc.”

Sliwa told voters that he wants to get rid of any animal shelter that kills pets.

“I will continue to make it one of the key campaign planks,” he said during a press conference. “Part of our mandate is that when I become mayor, there will be no-kill shelters in the city of New York.”

Sliwa will face off against Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams in November.

Baltimore radio host Torrey Snow is pushing back against theories presented by White House officials for vaccine hesitancy.

During his daily show Monday on WBAL NewsRadio 1090 and FM 101.5, Snow said it is unlikely that city residents are listening to the narratives being spun in the Nation’s Capital.

Snow is referring to a statement made by President Joe Biden last week, accusing Facebook of “killing people.” Days after making that statement, Biden absolved the platform of any wrongdoing.

“Facebook isn’t killing people, these 12 people are out there giving misinformation,” Biden said. “Anyone listening to it is getting hurt by it. It’s killing people. It’s bad information.”

Snow said that statement coupled with other narratives about misinformation and disinformation is not the reason some city residents have opted not to get vaccinated.

“Both of those theories actually go out the window when you look at Baltimore City,” he said. “You are hard-pressed to make a case that Baltimore City is a bastion of white, evangelical, right-wing, Trumpists conservatives, good luck making that argument.”

Snow said even the arenas where the vaccine misinformation flows are unlikely to reach residents in the city. Snow claims trust is the biggest factor that politicians are not accounting for.

“I think they are people in Baltimore City that don’t have a great deal of trust in the mayor, they don’t have a great deal of trust for the Baltimore City Health Department, and they certainly don’t have a great deal of trust for the CDC or the FDA.”

Texas Speaker of the House Dade Phelan appeared on Dallas talk radio Monday to discuss what is being done to prevent House members from leaving their posts, as Texas Democrats have done.

Two weeks ago, 50 lawmakers staged a walkout and flew to DC to avoid voting on a new election bill. 

Phelan joined the Chris Salcedo Show on WBAP News Talk 820 AM and 99.5 FM to discuss a potential solution.

“It started out as a ploy for them,” Phelan said. “They (Democrats) get on a private jet, they fly to DC maskless, they contract COVID, and they give COVID to the staffers at the White House, in my opinion, it has been a disaster from day one.”

Phelan said state Republicans plan to hold a series of special sessions all year long to complete unfinished tasks which in this case is a controversial elections bill that would ban drive-thru voting and 24-hour voting. 

“I applaud the governor for his resilience,” said Phelan. “There is a lot to address in the special session and it’s the governor’s decision to keep bringing us back.”

Phelan said that he has never seen the Republicans as unified as they are right now in the legislature.

“I ran for office, I took an oath of office to defend the Constitution,” Phelan said. “When it’s time to do work, you show up and do the work.”
