Vince McMahon is coming to a screen in a way never before seen by WWE fans. The wrestling promotion announced a new show developed by Blumhouse Television called The United States of America Vs. Vince McMahon.
This show is the first time the WWE chairman and their wrestlers have ever been featured in scripted series. The groundbreaking series follows McMahon and WWE during the 90s when The New York Post lobbed constant steroid accusations towards WWE. Writer Phil Mushnick peppered the promotions public relations desk with headlines like “Legislators Give WWE A Free Pass On ‘Roids” and “McMahon Skips Through the Cemetery.” The barrage perked the attention of the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York.
McMahon eventually pleaded not guilty to supplying his fighters with steroids and was acquitted by a jury of his peers. It was a crossroads event that directly impacted what WWE has become today.
“Jason, Chris, and their team at Blumhouse create amazing work and we look forward to delivering an inside look into one of the most pivotal moments in our company’s history,” WWE Executive Producer & Chief of Global Television Distribution Kevin Dunn said in a press release.
Multiple voices are helping produce the project, including Dunn, McMahon, and Blumhouse Television President Chris McCumber.
“We have a dramatic, riveting saga – one that’s crazier than fiction – that will appeal to the cross-section of Blumhouse and WWE fans,” McCumber said in the press release. “To say I’m thrilled about collaborating again with WWE is an understatement.”
No word has come down on a distribution plan for the project, just that it’s a scripted television show. The announcement marks another step towards multimedia growth for the promotion as they continue expanding on TikTok while welcoming back legions of fans to arenas around the country.
