The sports media world roasted Tim Tebow and the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend over what they saw from the former-Heisman Trophy winner. The converted tight end was a non-factor in the passing game and put together some questionable attempts as a run blocker.
Don’t loop Fox Sports Skip Bayless into that group of haters though, he wasn’t as critical as his Undisputed teammate Shannon Sharpe. Bayless has been a staunch supporter of Tebow and criticized the league this summer for not signing him sooner.
“This was bad, you know it was bad, everybody that saw it knows it was bad,” Sharpe, a Hall-of-Fame tight end in his own right, told Bayless.
In the above video, Tebow attempts to block Cleveland Browns’ defensive end, Travon Young, only to spin off him like a ragdoll.
“I don’t know that that block was bad,” Bayless told Sharpe.“Tebow is so awkwardly off balance because the man he’s supposed to block is running away from him; that he actually stumbles sideways for a second and ends up sort of banging facemasks with one of his own teammates which is just completely weird,” Bayless admitted.
The Fox Sports personality was not hearing any slander surrounding the quarterback turned tight end.
“Well I think I was the first to immediately tweet, he did get the job done!” Bayless boasted. “The point was, he accomplished what his designation on the play was, to get that number 59, the left defensive end. He didn’t really have to do anything, but he got it!”
That wasn’t the only block Tebow got skewered for on social media. Literally one play later, the Florida product turned in this effort on another (attempted) run block.
The Jaguars cut down their roster a little closer to the final 53-man unit this week as the NFL world awaits the fate of Tebow Time in Jacksonville.
