WWL, 870-AM in New Orleans, has announced that former Saints running back Deuce McAllister will become the new color analyst on the New Orleans Saints radio network. McAllister will succeed Howard “Hokie” Gajan, who teamed with Jim Henderson on the team’s broadcasts for the past 15 years. Gajan died in April after a battle with cancer.
“It’s a bittersweet moment for me, and one that I don’t take lightly,” McAllister said. “Just to have the honor and the privilege to work with Jim, who does such an excellent job. I know what WWL means to the community. I know it’s not just football. It means a lot.”
McAllister is scheduled to make his debut August 11th when the Saints face the New England Patriots in pre-season action. He’ll also have a role on WWL’s coverage of Saints training camp.
“I don’t think WWL and the Saints network could have made a better choice,” Henderson said. “I miss Hokie Gajan every single day. I think we all do. But we had to move on, and I think we made a great choice in Deuce. When Deuce filled in for Hokie last year it was seamless. It was like he had been doing it for years. He’s current, candid, and knowledgeable about the NFL. There’s only one Hokie. There’s only one Deuce. And we got him.”
