The San Antonio Commanders, of the newly formed Alliance of American Football, announced a partnership with Alpha Media’s ESPN San Antonio to serve as the organization’s flagship radio station.
Commanders games will broadcast on KZDC 1250 AM and 94.5 FM when the inaugural season begins next month, one week after the Super Bowl. Jason Minnix, co-host of ESPN San Antonio’s afternoon drive show The Blitz, will serve as the Commanders radio play-by-play voice.
“We believe The Alliance’s leadership and focus on exceptional football combined with its commitment to a personal and interactive relationship with its fans aligns perfectly with our mission to provide exceptional local quality content. This is going to be fun,” said ESPN San Antonio Program Director Rob Thompson.
The broadcast will carry a two-hour pregame show live from the Alamodome’s H-E-B Plaza when the Commanders are home, with each road contest offering a 30-minute pregame show. Each broadcast will carry a half-hour postgame show featuring head coach Mike Riley and Commanders’ players. Riley will also contribute to a weekly radio program on ESPN San Antonio.
“This is a great partnership with ESPNSA 1250 AM / 94.5 FM as it allows our fans to connect to our games no matter where they are,” said San Antonio Team President Vic Gregovits. “Securing a dedicated home for the Commanders on the airwaves was a key point for us and this partnership delivers on that goal.”
The Alliance of American Football League was founded by NFL Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian and TV producer Charlie Ebersol, son of former NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol. The league kicks off with eight teams playing a 10-week regular season schedule beginning February 9th on CBS.
