The biggest story in the world of football right now is what exactly the Arizona Cardinals will do with the first pick in next week’s NFL Draft. New head coach Kliff Kingsbury has spoken highly of Oklahoma QB and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, but the team traded up in the first round last year to select Josh Rose from UCLA, so that leaves the pick very much in question.
98.7 Arizona Sports decided to capitalize on the uncertainty and passion in the Cardinals fanbase by hosting a conversation about what it is like to be the Cardinals’ franchise QB. To do that, morning show Doug and Wolf sat down with the Cardinals’ last two franchise QBs, Kurt Warner and Carson Palmer.
The conversation lasted more than an hour and was broadcast over the course of three days on The Doug & Wolf Show. The series was titled Cardinals QB1: The Franchise Focus. It is available now as a 1 hour and 21 minute long podcast on the Arizona Sports website.

In the show Warner and Palmer discuss a variety of topics, including the strengths of both Rosen and Murray. Warner talks about why there is no way to sell other Cardinals players on the idea of drafting a quarterback in the first round for a second consecutive year. The duo also discuss what they each think the right move for the franchise is and what it is like to live in Phoenix with the mantel of “franchise quarterback” placed on you.
The entire Doug and Wolf team, APD Rod Lakin, and PD Ryan Hatch deserve a ton of credit for Cardinals QB1: The Franchise Focus. It is the kind of outside-the-box content so many stations talk about bringing to sports radio but rarely execute. The fact that it can be repurposed in multiple ways on multiple platforms makes it even more valuable.
