Longtime Denver sportscaster and radio host, Les Shapiro announced he’s leaving the market. This Friday, Feb. 28 will be his last day hosting Afternoon Drive with Shapiro and Goodman on Denver’s Mile High Sports which airs weekdays from 4 – 6pm.

The 63-year old Shapiro will be relocating to Scottsdale, Az. But after 36 years as a Denver sportscaster, he’s not retiring from the industry. When announcing the move on Twitter, Shapiro hinted that he has other things in the works, later telling Sean Keeler of The Denver Post he’ll begin co-hosting a podcast titled Unstoppable in April.

Shapiro thanked his Mile High Sports co-host Eric Goodman for talking him into doing the show for the last five years. Goodman has been on-air with Mile High Sports since 2009.

In 2018, Shapiro learned he had stage 4 lung cancer, but the sportscaster told the Denver Post he feels like he’s 30.

“My health is great right now. I say, ‘Right now,’ because you don’t know what’s around the corner,” Shapiro told The Post. “There’s still some cancer in my lung and my neck area. However, it’s minuscule and (my doctors) are doing a great job of controlling it and I’m living a pretty normal life.”

Shapiro’s Denver sportscasting career has seen him work for CBS4, ESPN Radio, FOX 31 and Mile High Sports. An Illinois native, Shapiro and his wife plan to spend their summers in Chicago and the rest of the year in Arizona where he graduated from ASU.
