“If this is going to become a trendsetter for the NHL, like finding an outrageous way to ask someone to prom, the Senators will be tough to top.”

If you ever find yourself being asked, ‘what’s your favorite moment in the history of the NHL draft?’ now you have an answer.

The NHL event doesn’t generate the same buzz as the NFL Draft or even the NBA’s night for selecting incoming prospects, but add Alex Trebek into the fold and hockey all of a sudden generates a lot more buzz. Instead of using a player, coach or GM to announce the third overall pick of the NHL draft, the Ottawa Senators called on Canadian native and longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek for help.

Trebek did much more than just record himself reciting the name of the Senators first draft pick, he played along in recreating his popular game show to let Tim Stützle know he should head to Ottawa. If this is going to become a trendsetter for the NHL, like finding an outrageous way to ask someone to prom, the Senators will be tough to top.

The 80-year old Trebek is currently battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, a diagnosis he announced in March 2019, but he’s since continued to work and tape episodes of Jeopardy!.
