Published

on

MRN will look back on the attacks of September 11 this week during the lead-up to the race in Richmond. The pre-race broadcast will look at how NASCAR dealt with the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The special will feature Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace sharing their memories as drivers of the Richmond race in 2001. NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton will also share his memories of the discussions that lead to the race scheduled for the following week in New Hampshire being postponed.

NASCAR would return in November of 2001. The MRN special will include audio from that race, which was in Dover and won by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

MRN’s weekday shows will also include commemorations of the events and the lives lost. NASCAR LIVE, NASCAR TODAY, and NASCAR Hot Pass will all air throughout the week, with NASCAR’s week in Richmond culminating in the Federated Auto Parts 400 Salute to First Responders.
