“If you’ve ever assumed from just hearing Jim Gray talk normally that he’s probably not a good guy, we’ve experienced it. He’s definitely not a good guy.”

Some interviews never go how they were intended, and some just turn out to be a complete disaster.

On Tuesday on Boston’s 98.5 The Sports Hub, Toucher & Rich recalled a disaster of an interview they had with journalist Jim Gray in 2019 from Radio Row at Super Bowl LIII.

Hosts Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb opened the interview asking Gray about being present for an interview Tom Brady did with Oprah Winfrey, and the exchange got awkward and weird very fast.

The conversation eventually ended with Gray saying the duo asked him a stupid question and then Toucher and Rich abruptly ending the interview.

The two recalled how in the moments after that, Gray sought out the station’s then-program director Mike Thomas and attempted to have them fired for how he was treated. As the title to Tuesday’s third hour podcast states, they wanted to remind listeners that “Jim Gray is a douche.”

“If you’ve ever assumed from just hearing Jim Gray talk normally that he’s probably not a good guy, we’ve experienced it,” Toucher said. “He’s definitely not a good guy.”

They also remembered how Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice was interviewed next, and even he pointed out that Toucher and Rich were not the bad guys in that exchange.

“Jerry Rice is like the nicest human being on the planet, and he was like, ‘What was that dude’s problem?’” Toucher said.

Eventually, the discussion transitioned into how Gray, being a family friend of the Bradys, is nothing more than a PR guy for Brady, and how the quarterback knew of the question coming about his recent retirement.

It doesn’t seem likely that Gray will be a guest on their show anytime again in the near future.
