For nearly a decade, Deion Sanders has been a featured analyst on NFL Network, but according to the Hall of Fame cornerback, he may not stay a sportscaster for much longer.
During an appearance with The Dan Patrick Show earlier this week, the Hall of Famer dubbed ‘Prime Time’ said he expects to land a head coaching gig in college football next year.
Sanders’ coaching experience doesn’t extend much beyond his role with the Prime Prep Academy from 2012-15. The academy was a group of charter schools in Texas that closed five years ago and did at times feature Sanders as a football coach.
Even with his limited coaching experience, Sanders was rumored to be a candidate for the opening at Florida State University last November. The head coaching job eventually went to Memphis’s Mike Norvell. At the time of the report, Sanders seemed like an unlikely candidate, but the mutual interest wasn’t completely outlandish considering his legendary status at the school. In the late 1980s, Sanders played football, baseball and ran track for the Seminoles prior to playing in the NFL and Major League Baseball.
During his interview with The Dan Patrick Show, Sanders also stated he interviewed for another college football job, but didn’t say where.
