“It is high. It is far. It is gooooone!”
Yankee fans could hear those words again as soon as Thursday. Andrew Marchand of The New York Post reports that John Sterling will return to the broadcast booth that night for the New York Yankees.
Sterling was hospitalized due to complications from a blood infection last week. He spent four days in the hospital. Fortunately, the infection did not reach his heart.
After a negative Covid-19 test, Sterling declared “Everything is cool.”
Rickie Ricardo is usually the voice of the Yankees’ Spanish broadcasts. He has been alongside Suzyn Waldman, filling in for Sterling on the English language radio call since July 30.
Initially, John Sterling had hoped to return to call games on Wednesday, August 5. The Yankees are scheduled to host the Phillies for a doubleheader. WFAN, the Yankees’ radio flagship, decided they wanted to wait an extra day, so that Sterling would have a lighter work load in his first game back.
