“I am not sure what’s next, but we fully intend to continue the podcast elsewhere.”

Several podcasters who were part of the SB Nation Podcast Network took to X to say they were informed the network was being shut down. Vox Media, the parent company of SB Nation, had a few rounds of layoffs in 2023, totaling more than 10% of its staff and now it has continued into 2024.

“We’re both confused and absolutely heartbroken over SB Nation’s decision to cut their podcast program immediately,” wrote the Pride of Detroit X account. “When we have more answers about the future of the podcast, we’ll let you know. But for now, thank you all for almost 9 years.”

Scott Coleman, an Atlanta Braves writer and podcaster for Battery Power, which was part of the SB Nation MLB Network, posted, “Some sad news to share: Effective immediately, the SB Nation podcast network is being shut down. That includes the Talking Chop/Battery Power podcast. I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you who supported the show over the years. It was an incredible run.

“The podcast launched during some of the roughest days of the Braves’ rebuild. We had a handful of listeners each week and kept going. And as the Braves grew and won, so did the podcast. I am not sure what’s next, but we fully intend to continue the podcast elsewhere.”

Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, an SB Nation site covering the Kansas City Chiefs wrote, in part, “SB Nation opted to end its support for our Arrowhead Pride podcasts today. I encouraged our great shows, such as Out of Structure, Great British Chiefs Show, Coast 2 Coast and Show and BK to continue talking Chiefs on their own feeds or as part of another network. I’ll RT them on this feed when they start to appear.”

SB Nation was launched by Tyler Bleszinski, Markos Moulitsas and Jerome Armstrong in 2003.

On3, which focuses on reporting surrounding college sports, recruiting and NIL, has announced that it is launching the On3 HER vertical. The new venture will center on women’s sports and include women’s basketball reporter Talia Goodman, who will cover the sport at the national level. Goodman released her first story with On3 Sports on Wednesday morning where she spoke with coaches around the sport to determine how women’s college basketball can capitalize on its momentum after Caitlin Clark. Goodman is the daughter of Jeff Goodman, who is the co-founder of The Field Of 68 Media Network.

“Admittedly, I have not done an acceptable job of building Women’s HS and College Sports media and creating opportunities for female writers and insiders over the past three decades,” Shannon Terry, founder and chief executive officer of On 3, said in a post on X. “That is one of several things we get to correct with On3. We are adding Women’s sports as a primary focus and will hire and create many new career opportunities as we expand the On3 HER brand.”

Terry, who also founded 247Sports, Rivals and Pop Culture Media, added that there will be forthcoming announcements about On3 HER. The website has also released a women’s basketball transfer portal tracker and includes women’s sports news from several reporters and contributors with the outlet. In her announcement on X, Goodman stated that there are “really fun things in the works” and implored consumers to stay tuned. She also thanked Terry and On3 for the opportunity and expressed her excitement to begin.

Goodman currently studies sports media at Indiana University Bloomington and will be covering Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and the Indiana Fever for The Next Hoops in the upcoming WNBA season. Additionally, she has served as a beat reporter for The Hoosier Network and previously interned with NBC Sports Boston.

Dan Le Batard: Jason Kelce ‘Could Have Had Any Job That He Wanted in the Media’

“The football mask has always hidden these guys under stardom.”

Former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce has reportedly agreed to a deal with ESPN that will have him join Monday Night Countdown during the NFL season. Kelce, who also co-hosts the New Heights podcast with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, had discussed potentially working in sports media in the past.

Dan Le Batard believes that Kelce could have landed any job that he wanted to, especially becoming more famous late in life and with his brother dating award-winning singer and songwriter Taylor Swift. Aside from his stellar play on the field, which resulted in seven Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl championship, Kelce’s podcast and fandom have augmented his standing in the media landscape.

“I will tell you this is a fascinating thing to watch in the media age when the athletes come for all of the great jobs and have their own brands,” Le Batard said on Tuesday’s episode of The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz. “Jason Kelce has turned himself into what’s going to be the most powerful offensive lineman voice there’s been since John Madden? Since whatever it is – Art Donovan? You don’t get to be famous as one of these offensive lineman.”

Le Batard expressed that the signing was great for both Kelce and ESPN, referring to him as someone who will be “an obvious star, a beer-belly every man on your football telecast.” Additionally, he asserted that the role is going to elevate his profile and have him become more known to football fans and viewers from around the country.

Sports Bash, a popular sports show broadcasted on YouTube and Long Island’s 103.9 FM LI Newsradio, will now be streamed live every weekday at 9 a.m. EST starting May 6th on various platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio and TuneIn. The duo of New York radio personality Peter Schwartz and Ticketbash.com CEO Vincent Grieco co-host the show, which is owned and produced by Sports Bash Media. Originally launched in August of 2023 as a radio-only program, it expanded to include a video version on YouTube in October of that same year.

“We are excited to expand Sports Bash to become a daily show each weekday morning,” said co-host Peter Schwartz, who is also an update anchor for WFAN and WCBS 880 in New York as well as the Infinity Sports Network.  “When we launched in August, it was our goal to grow the show and the company.  We’re looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Aside from being the host of Sports Bash, Schwartz also presents “For Pete’s Take” on a daily basis, a social media segment from Sports Bash Media that covers the latest in sports news and upcoming events.

“When you combine the world of sports and concerts with the complex ticket landscape, a show is born,” said co-host Vincent Grieco. “The show was started to fill a void in the overall entertainment space which covers sports updates and the world of ticketing.”

Grieco is the Founder and CEO of Ticketbash.com, an online ticket agency, based in Melville, New York. Known as “Vinny Tickets,” Vincent has over 25 years of experience in the ticket industry. Vinny is “the ultimate fan,” and has a passion for creating amazing experiences, and lasting memories for his customer.

In addition to producing and broadcasting videos on their Facebook and Instagram accounts, Sports Bash Media covers local sporting events. The current half-hour show is set to expand to a full hour in the near future, with plans to add more shows under the Sports Bash Media umbrella.
